Liberia International Airport is located in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica near the Nicaragua border. This is one of two international airports in the country.

Hotels Very Close to the Airport
There is only one hotel located directly across the street from the airport. I think more places will be built within the next few years as Liberia Airport grows in popularity, but for now, these are your best options.
Top Hotel Choice: Hampton By Hilton Guanacaste Airport
If you have an early morning flight or get in late in the evening we suggest staying at this hotel, located directly across the street from the airport. There is a free shuttle that runs between the hotel and the airport.
Second Choice: Hilton Garden Inn
Also located directly across the street from the airport. There is a free shuttle that runs between the hotel and the airport.
Vacation Rental Close to Liberia Airport
Hotels within a 20 Minute Drive
Within 20 minutes of Liberia Airport, it is possible to get to the beach town of Playa Hermosa or the small beach area near Playa Panama.
Both of these areas are great options for nice coastal views and a variety of accommodation price points.
Alternatively, it is possible to get to downtown Liberia within 20 minutes. However, we think staying at the beach is much more enjoyable than staying in the city of Liberia.
The beach area hotels we suggest are:
High End
Secrets Papagayo – An adults-only resort with tons of amenities. Secrets has locations throughout the world and is a popular all-inclusive resort option for honeymoons.
El Mangroove – The property has two restaurants, spa, beach access, a beautiful pool, and more! Also, the grounds here are beautiful. You will feel so secluded in luxury.
Hotel Bosque del Mar – This is our more high-end hotel choice in Hermosa. It is located directly on the beach, there is a nice pool on the property, the rooms and staff are excellent.
Mid-Range
Villa del Sueno – This is a good place to stay with a nice garden property close to the beach. There is a nice pool on the property and breakfast is included.
Hotel El Velero – Located directly on the beach, this is the perfect place for relaxing with an ocean view. There is a pool and restaurant on the property.
Villas Sol Resort – Located in Playa Hermosa, this all-inclusive resort is great for those of you looking for an all-inclusive stay next to the beach without the high price tag.
Papagayo Golden Palms – The nice garden property that backs up to the beach is the real draw here. The rooms are clean and nice and there is a pool on site.

Sol y Mar Condo 4C– Three bedroom condo that sleeps 6 guests. This is a ground level condo with large balcony area and outdoor grill. All condos have pool access and are directly on the beach.
Sol y Mar Condo #2 – A 3 bedroom 3 bath condo that has everything you would need for a comfortable stay.
Sol y Mar Condo #3 – 3 bedroom/ 3 bath condo on the beach in Playa Hermosa.
Villas
Casa Picapiedra – A 4 bedroom villa that can sleep up to 8 guests. There is a nice infinity pool with coastal views.
Casa Manana – A 4 bedroom villa that can sleep 8 guests. There is a nice outdoor area with pool and grill.

Hotels within a 30-Minute Drive
Within 30 minutes of the airport you can get to Playas del Coco or the Papagayo Peninsula.
Papagayo is great if you are looking for an exclusive luxury resort stay with some of the nicest beaches in Costa Rica.
Playas del Coco is a good option if you would like a beach town with nightlife, good restaurants, and fun activities nearby.

Andaz Papagayo – The Andaz by Hyatt is a luxury hotel at its finest. Everything here feels perfect.
Andaz is great because it offers an upscale experience for couples or families. For example, there is a swimming pool reserved just for adults as well as one for families. Also, it is possible to stay here as an all-inclusive resort or to opt for a lower-cost option in which meals are not included.
The Four Seasons – This is often considered the most luxurious of resorts in Costa Rica. In fact, many famous faces have stayed here in the past including the Kardashians, Beyonce & Jay Z, and Justin Bieber.

Playas del Coco Hotels
Hotel M&M Beach Hotel-Located across from the beach. Breakfast is included and there is a kitchen that all the guests can use. There isn’t air conditioning, but they have plenty of fans in every room.
Hotel La Puerta del Sol– Located 300 meters from the beach. There is also a pool and bar on-site.
Hotel M&M Garden House– Located in the center of Playas del Coco, this hotel has private rooms as well as shared dorms. There is a pool for guests to use on-site.
Toucan House– Rooms are air-conditioned and there is a shared kitchen for guests to use.

If you would like your own space with a bit more privacy and a kitchen during your stay, we suggest:
Condos
Ocean View Condo – A two bedroom condo that can sleep four guests. This place is located above the town and has amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. There is a private plunge pool as well as the condo complex amenities which include; fitness center, tennis courts, and pools.
Pacifico Luxury Condo – A three bedroom condo that can sleep up to six guests. The condo complex features multiple pools, a jacuzzi, and BBQ area.
Villas
Ocean View House – A two-bedroom house that can sleep five guests. this place has an infinity pool with Pacific coast views and an outdoor BBQ. This would be a great place for a family or two couples.
Villa Tatiana – One of the most modern and large villas in the area. This house can sleep 14 guests in five bedrooms. This would be a great place for several friends or an extended family.
Al Garete – This is a beachfront house with a private pool that can sleep up to 13 guests in five bedrooms.

Should I Spend the Night in Liberia?
The airport is called Liberia International Airport, but it is technically on the outskirts of the city. Downtown Liberia is not a place you really need to spend much time in. It is generally safe and fine, but there is not a whole lot to do.
When looking for hotels near the Liberia Costa Rica Airport, you are better off staying on the road near the airport or at one of the nearby beach towns.
The only time I suggest staying in downtown Liberia is if your flight gets in late at night and then next day you plan to head north towards Rincon de la Vieja, Nicaragua border, or if you need to go on the main highway to La Fortuna, Rio Celeste, or Monteverde.
Staying in Liberia will make it easy for you to hit the road the next morning to get to any of those places.
How Far is Liberia From the Airport?
The drive from Liberia Airport to the center of the city of Liberia will take about 15 to 20 minutes. It is about 8.4 miles (13.5km).
Typically the traffic isn’t too bad on the road from the airport to Liberia, but within the city, the traffic can be worse. The city is set up in grid-like blocks with many one-way roads.

Hotels in Downtown Liberia
How Far Are Resorts From Liberia Airport?
The nearest resorts that we recommended are El Mangroove and Secrets Papagayo. These resorts are both located near Playa Panama and will take about 20 minutes to drive to.
They are both approximately 12 miles (a little over 19 km) away from the airport.
Alternatively, you can go to the resorts on the Papagayo Peninsula which will take about 30 minutes to get to.
Other Liberia Airport Hotel Tips
– If you plan to stay in one of the beach towns near the airport, I suggest spending at least 3 nights here if you can. This is such a nice area to enjoy the beach and coastal views. Plus, the Guanacaste Province is a great jumping-off point to so many fun day trips.

– Keep in mind that the sun sets between 5:15pm and 5:45pm all year round. I’m saying this in case you are landing after dark, renting a car and are concerned about driving. In my opinion, if you plan to drive to a hotel in the Playa Hermosa area, you shouldn’t have any trouble driving in the evening. It is a pretty easy drive. Some of the roads are curvy, but they are paved and well-maintained.
– The traffic is typically not too bad around here, but the main road to the airport is one lane in each direction. If you get stuck behind an accident or road work, it can take longer to drive here than expected.
