Whether you’re picturing volcano views, jungle lodges, or long beach days, this is where every great trip begins.

Start Planning

We’re Sarah and Thomas. We moved to Costa Rica in 2016 and never looked back.

We’ve explored every corner of the country and built Costa Rica Vibes to help travelers plan trips that actually feel good, not overwhelming. If you’re dreaming of beaches, volcanoes, jungle wildlife, or all of the above… you’re in the right place.

Is Costa Rica Right for You?

Why Travelers Fall in Love with Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of those places where everything just feels so alive. We love that mornings start with howler monkeys that act as a 5:30AM alarm clock…(so be prepared), days end with Pacific sunsets, and between you can hike volcano trails, swim under waterfalls, and sip cocktails by the beach.

Plus, it’s easy to visit. There is great infrastructure, friendly locals, and direct flights from the U.S. and Europe. Basically, it’s a dream destination that fits all travel styles. Costa Rica also has everything from budget backpacking to five-star eco-luxury.

The life motto here is “pura vida” and the country really runs on that mindset. It means slow down, smile more, stress less. Everything is good.

Costa Rica’s is relaxed, outdoorsy, and full of surprises. Here’s how to know if it’s your kind of place….

❤️ You’ll love it if… ⚡ It might surprise you if… 💡 Good to know
You love nature, wildlife, and adventure. You expect luxury shopping or nightlife everywhere. The tap water is safe in most areas.
You don’t mind a little rain if it means lush jungle. You prefer big cities or European-style streets. USD is accepted but colones get better rates.
You like friendly locals, simple living, and great coffee. You need strict punctuality — time runs on “pura vida.” Roads can be bumpy; rent an SUV if exploring beyond towns.

The Caribbean is calm, colorful, and slow-paced.

When to Visit Costa Rica

There’s no bad time to visit, but every season brings its own pros and cons.

  • Dec–Apr (Dry Season): Sunny, perfect beach weather on the Pacific. Also, the most expensive and popular time to travel.
  • May–Aug (Green Season): Fewer crowds, lush forests, afternoon showers.
  • Sep–Oct: Rainiest months on the Pacific, but the best time for the Caribbean coast.

F.A.Q.

I usually suggest at least 7 days in Costa Rica if you can swing it. That gives you time for one jungle area (like La Fortuna or Monteverde) and one beach town without feeling rushed.

If you have 10 days, you can comfortably do a classic loop like volcano + cloud forest + beach. With 2 weeks or more, you can add in extra spots like the Caribbean coast, the Osa Peninsula, or more off-the-beaten-path towns.

In general, Costa Rica is safe. However, petty theft has been known to occur. It is best to keep an eye on your belongings and don’t bring overly expensive items that could make you a target or get stolen.

Costa Rica is considered the most expensive country in Central America. That being said, it is possible to stick to a budget by traveling at off-peak times, staying at less fancy hotels, and by doing more budget-friendly activities such as exploring the beaches and national parks.
