Everywhere! It is so hard to narrow down where to go in Costa Rica. We get it! For such a small country there is so much to see.
We suggest you start off by looking at our destination guides to get a better idea of some things you really want to see.
For a one week trip we suggest you stick to visiting two places. It can take a long time to drive between locations and we want you to actually enjoy your time instead of driving every day.
We personally love renting a car because it gives you so much more flexibility to see a lot and on your own terms.

If you are really tight on budget, the public buses here are not bad. The problem is that it can be difficult to travel between locations. In other words, sometimes you will have to go all the way back to San Jose to connect to another part of the country.
Private shuttles are great, but expensive.

Keep in mind that if you are traveling during the rainy season the weather forecast will likely say rain all day every day. Don’t worry! They lie! Haha. I swear the weather people just stop working during the rainy season. You will very rarely have full days of rain.
Costa Rica is generally safe. Petty crime has been known to happen, but more serious crimes are very rare.
