The hotels on this list are a bit spread out. We included a few places in the hills above Tambor (you will definitely want a rental car if staying there) as well as some beachfront options both in Tambor and just south of Tambor.
As you can see, this area is not nearly as built up by tourism as some of the other beach towns in the area. This definitely adds to its peaceful charm. However, it also means that some of the hotels are not at the same caliber of excellence as you will find in other more built-up towns.

1. Tango Mar Beachfront Boutique Hotel & Villas

Tango Mar is a luxury beachfront boutique hotel. The property offers a range of accommodations, including beachfront rooms, tropical suites, and private villas with ocean views.
Guests can enjoy various amenities such as an infinity pool, a spa, a golf course, and multiple dining options. Yes, you read that right, this is one of the few resorts in Costa Rica with a golf course. Unfortunately, it is only 9-holes, but better than nothing! Plus, if you want an 18 hole course you can head to Los Delfines Country Club which is just a short drive away.
The hotel also provides the option to book activities like horseback riding, hiking, and exploring nearby waterfalls.
Why We Like It: I think that Tango Mar is not nearly as modern as some other resorts in Costa Rica, but it is still nice. However, the price point really reflects the resort’s quality and I think is very reasonable.
We love Tango Mar for its stunning beachfront location, spa and golf course, and proximity to the Tambor Airport.
I also think that this is the perfect place to go if you want to practice your short game in golf.
2. Tambor Tropical Beach Resort- Adults Only

Tambor Tropical Beach Resort is a beachfront resort located in Tambor Bay.
The resort offers suites with hardwood furnishings, spacious terraces, and ocean or garden views. All rooms also have a private kitchen area so you can cook your own meals.
Guests can enjoy a range of amenities, including a beachfront pool, on-site restaurant, spa services, and guided tours.
The on-site restaurant serves traditional Costa Rican dishes including fresh fish. Meals can also be delivered to your room. Also, breakfast is included in your stay
Why We Like It: We love Tambor Tropical for its beachfront location and spacious suites. I also love that they only have 10 suites, so it feels more peaceful than other places.
I think this place has a rustic look to it, which can be taken as outdated. Yes, the rooms can be a bit dark with all of the wood design features, but I think the design really adds to the charm here.
I like that this is an adult-only hotel. I think this makes relaxing at the pool and enjoying a meal at the restaurant a bit more peaceful and romantic.
Plus, if you want direct beach access this is a great spot.
3. Lodge Margouillat

Lodge Margouillat is a boutique eco-lodge nestled in the hills of Tambor. This hotel offers a tranquil escape surrounded by lush tropical gardens with two swimming pools.
The lodge features a variety of accommodation options. All rooms are beautifully designed and some feature a private kitchen.
Why We Like It: We love Lodge Margouillat for its peaceful setting and seclusion.
The owner, Thomas, definitely takes a lot of pride in his hotel and it shows. He is one of the kindest and most helpful hotel owners we have ever come across in Costa Rica and really goes above and beyond to make this place as comfortable as possible. I think he makes all the difference in making this a place you will really enjoy staying.
Just keep in mind that this place is not located directly on the beach. You will need to drive about 5 minutes.
4. Los Vivos Beachfront Experience

Los Vivos Beachfront Experience is an exclusive eco-lodge located on a very private beach near Tambor.
The property offers a unique stay with luxurious beachfront glamping tents. Most tents are for up to 3 guests, but they also offer one tent that can fit up to 6 guests.
Each accommodation features modern amenities, a private bathroom, private outdoor spaces, and stunning views.
Guests can enjoy activities such as using the fitness center, yoga classes, kayaking, paddleboarding, and exploring the nearby nature trails.
There is also an on-site restaurant and breakfast is included in the stay.
Why We Like It: I am a big fan of glamping, and this place definitely delivers on cool glamping vibes. I also really like their restaurant.
I think this is a great place to stay if you are looking for somewhat of a retreat experience and want to enjoy the on-site amenities and tours. You can of course easily drive to downtown Tambor or to Montezuma and Santa Teresa, but this is more of a place to just chill out.
5. Fidelito Ranch & Lodge

Fidelito Ranch & Lodge offers a unique stay in the hills of Tambor at a working ranch. This family-run property is located on 150 acres of land.
They have three different accommodation options here. These are apartments, 2-bedroom bungalows, and 3-bedroom bungalows. All accommodations have a kitchen and nice outdoor seating area.
The lodge also offers homemade meals made from fresh, local ingredients.
Why We Like It: We love Fidelito Ranch & Lodge! The owners are the best and for such a unique cultural experience you really can’t beat the price.
I definitely suggest taking the horseback riding tour that they offer. It’s the perfect way to see the property and get to learn all about the history of the place. Plus, you might see some unique wildlife!
Just keep in mind that, unlike most places on this list, this is not located on the beach. However, driving into Tambor and to the beach will take only about 5 minutes.
6. Villas Casa Carlos
⭐️ RATING: 8.6/10 Stars on Booking.com | ✅ Book it!
Villas Casa Carlos offers one and two-bedroom home rentals just south of Tambor in Tango Mar. Both homes feature a kitchen, air conditioning, and an outside seating area. There is also a shared pool on the property for guests to use.
The property is just a short walk from the beach.
Why We Like It: I included this place on this list because it is a good budget-friendly option if you are traveling with a family. However, it doesn’t have many of the same amenities and great features that some of the other places on this list have.
What About Barcelo Tambor?
The biggest hotel in Tambor is called Barcelo Tambor. This is an all-inclusive beachfront resort that features 4 restaurants, beachfront access, pools, and daily entertainment programs.
I didn’t include it on the list of my favorite hotels in the area because I find it very outdated and just not the nicest. However, I will say that the price point very reasonably reflects the quality of what you get here.
I don’t want to completely discourage you from booking a stay here because it is a good budget-friendly all-inclusive option, but I just want to warn you that it is not nearly as nice as other resorts in the country (which often have a much higher price point) and you might prefer a stay at one of the other places on this list.
