The 22 BEST Boutique Hotels in Costa Rica for Amazing Vibes
Costa Rica is a tropical paradise and a country that prides itself on being eco-friendly. It is the perfect destination to experience staying at a beautiful boutique hotel.
We have stayed at several boutique hotels in Costa Rica over our many years of living in the country. This list of the 22 best boutique hotels in Costa Rica is based on the places we have loved and places that have come highly recommended to us.
So, let’s get into all the best hotels with a boutique feel, and be sure to read to the end for some things you should know before booking!
What is a Boutique Hotel?
Staying at a boutique hotel is a bit different than your typical luxury hotel experience.
Some of the key features typically include:
- Size: Boutique hotels are usually smaller compared to larger chain hotels. They often have fewer rooms. This allows for a more intimate and exclusive experience.
- Design and Decor: They often have distinctive and stylish interior designs that have been carefully curated.
- Personalized Service: The staff at boutique hotels often provide a high level of personalized service. Guests may receive more individual attention, and the staff may go out of their way to meet specific needs or preferences.
- Amenities: While boutique hotels may not have the extensive facilities of larger chain hotels, they often offer unique amenities that contribute to the overall experience.
We love staying at boutique hotels and resorts for romantic getaways but they are also even great for families seeking a more personalized and immersive stay.

Things to Know Before Booking Boutique Hotels in Costa Rica
- Sometimes boutique hotels are very connected to nature. For example, you might find some places with an open-air feel. Although this is great, you need to understand that Costa Rica is home to a lot of bugs and other wildlife. These places do their best to keep animals at bay, but sometimes you might come across insects etc.
- Don’t forget to purchase travel insurance. This is helpful if your plans change at the last minute and you need to get money back for your hotel. We like Heymondo for Costa Rica travel insurance.
- If you are really set on staying at a boutique hotel in Costa Rica but are overwhelmed b y the cost, consider traveling during the rainy season. Prices tend to be lower and things get less booked out from May until November.
- You’ll need to think about your transportation. We like to rent a car for the most flexibility (click here to get 10% off plus other perks on your Costa Rica car rental) but if you plan to mostly stay at the hotel property it is probably not necessary to have a car. Instead, you might want to consider a shuttle or domestic flight.
- Most of the places we suggested are listed on Booking.com. We like Booking.com because they typically offer the lowest prices and offer great cancellation policies. However, read each cancellation policy before booking to make sure that you don’t miss the “cancel by” date if your plans change.
Conclusion: Boutique Hotels
In conclusion, there are several great boutique hotel options in Costa Rica for all budgets and interests. Hopefully you found a great place for you on this list of the 22 best boutique hotels.
