When people think wellness retreats in Costa Rica, they usually picture yoga on a deck somewhere with a green juice in hand. And, there’s nothing wrong with that, but the wellness scene here has grown into something so much deeper and more varied than that image suggests.

We’ve been living in Costa Rica since 2016, and the transformation we’ve watched happen in this space over the years has been genuinely remarkable.

In this post, we’re breaking down 9 of the wellness retreats in Costa Rica that we think are actually worth your attention. These span the whole country and each one does something different. Whether you’re looking to heal something deep, learn a new skill, reconnect with a partner, or just finally, properly rest, there’s something on this list for where you are right now.

We’ll also cover everything you need to know before you book, from seasons and pricing to getting there, airports, and how to make the most of your trip by tacking on a few extra days to explore.

What to Know Before Booking a Wellness Retreat in Costa Rica

Seasons and Pricing

Costa Rica has two main seasons. The dry season runs roughly from December through April and the rainy season runs roughly from May through November.

  • Dry season is peak travel time, which means higher prices across the board, including for retreats.
  • Rainy season is often significantly cheaper and still a beautiful time to visit. The landscape is lush, there are fewer crowds, and you’ll often find better availability.

If your schedule is flexible, booking a retreat in the green season can save you a meaningful amount of money.

Getting There — Airports

Costa Rica has two main international airports.

  • Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José is the larger of the two and has the most flight options from North America and Europe.
  • Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia is closer to the Guanacaste region and the northern Pacific coast.

Which airport makes more sense depends on where your retreat is located. We’ve noted the closest airport for each retreat below so you can plan accordingly.

Getting to Your Retreat Center

Once you land, you’ll need to get to your retreat. Most retreat centers are happy to help you arrange transfers. Just ask when you book.

Your main options are shared shuttles or private transfers. Shared shuttles are more affordable and run between most major destinations in Costa Rica. Private transfers cost more but get you door to door without stops.

For more remote retreat locations, a private transfer is often the more practical choice.

This retreat approaches freediving not as a sport to master but as a doorway into presence. All sessions are adapted to each person with zero pressure.
