Whats On in May?

What’s On in May?

  • Start of the Green Season (Pacific Side): Sunny, hot mornings with brief afternoon showers rolling in around 2pm, especially along the Central & South Pacific. Guanacaste tends to stay drier longer.
  • Lush Landscapes & Active Wildlife: Everything turns vibrant green again, waterfalls have stronger flow, and cooler temps make wildlife more active.
  • Mid-Season Pricing: Fewer crowds than peak season (Jan–Apr) and slightly lower rates on hotels and tours, but everything is still open and operating.

🎉 Costa Rican Holidays & Festivals in May

  • Labor Day (May 1): This is a public holiday. Many businesses and shops close, and you’ll often see parades and demonstrations in major cities.
  • Día de San Isidro Labrador (May 15): Celebrated in towns near San José like San Isidro de Heredia, Pérez Zeledón, and Atenas. Expect parades, traditional food, and a ceremonial blessing of the crops in honor of the patron saint of farming.
