Tortuga Lodge & Gardens provides eco-friendly accommodations with an emphasis on sustainability. Guests can enjoy a riverside pool, guided tours, and a restaurant serving local cuisine. This hotel has recently been completely redone. Everything is beautiful here and has a boutique hotel feel to it.

Why We Like It: We have stayed at other Böëna properties throughout Costa Rica and know that they are a great hotel company. Their Tortugua Lodge & Gardens property definitely lives up to their typical high standard of service.

The one major downside is that this hotel is on the other island. You will need to take a boat to get to the downtown area with other restaurants and the national park.

3. Mawamba Lodge

Mawamba Lodge offers comfortable accommodations with a focus on nature and adventure. The lodge features a swimming pool, on-site restaurants, and a beautiful property.

Why We Like It: I love the design of the rooms at Mawamba. The wooden style with beautiful features definitely makes this place stand out. I also think the property is just so cool with a lush jungle feel. The downside is that it is a bit of walk from the downtown area.

4. Evergreen Lodge

Evergreen Lodge offers rustic yet comfortable accommodations nestled in the rainforest. Guests can enjoy an outdoor pool and comfortable rooms.

Why We Like It: I like that all the rooms in Evergreen Lodge are set up as individual cabins. It provides a lot of privacy and ensures you will have a quiet stay. Plus, each cabin has two double beds, so they are perfect for a small family.

There are two negatives though. This hotel is a lot more remote than some of the other places on this list so you will need to take a boat to get to downtown Tortuguero. The other downside is that it can be on the higher end as far as rates go.

Aninga Lodge has a somewhat similar feel as Evergreen Lodge. The hotel provides eco-friendly accommodations with an outdoor pool (shaped like a turtle haha), spa, and restaurant. It’s perfect if you are looking for a blend of comfort and sustainability in a beautiful natural setting. The rooms are all set up as private bungalows.

Why We Like It: I like the rustic but modern feel to Aninga Lodge. I also love that it feels so jungle-y here. The biggest negative is that you will need to take a boat to the downtown area of Tortuguero.

6. Cabanas Daneysha

Cabañas Daneysha offers charming rooms surrounded by lush gardens. Here you can relax in the hammocks and enjoy the outdoor dining area. This is a very budget-friendly accommodation option, but it is also very rustic.

Why We Like It: In my opinion, the owners Gloria and Sergio make this place stand out. They are excellent hosts who will take great care of you. The cozy cabins and beautiful garden setting create such a relaxing atmosphere.

The downside is that the facilities are quite basic, but they provide everything needed for a pleasant stay. Also, you will need to take a boat to get to the downtown area.

7. Tortuguero Adventures GuestHouse

Tortuguero Adventures Guesthouse offers cozy and budget-friendly accommodations in the heart of downtown Tortuguero. This guesthouse features comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and free Wi-Fi.

Why We Like It: Tortuguero Adventures Guesthouse is great for budget travelers who want a comfortable and convenient place to stay in the perfect location to easily get to everything you might want to see in Tortuguero.

I also love that all rooms are designed with families in mind and can fit several guests.

I really can’t say anything bad about this place, we’ve always had a good experience.

Why We Like It: I love that Serendipity has kitchenettes in all rooms. This is one of the only places in Tortuguero with that feature. I think the price point is a bit high for what it is, but it is a pretty great place.
