Choosing where to stay in Manuel Antonio can feel confusing, not because there aren’t good hotels, but because there are actually so many hotel options. It can be overwhelming to choose the perfect place.

We live in Costa Rica and have spent years helping travelers plan real, on-the-ground itineraries here. Manuel Antonio is one of the places people ask us about most, especially when it comes to hotels that actually match the photos, the price, and the vibe.

We made this guide to break down the 11 best hotels in Manuel Antonio by travel style and budget, including luxury, mid-range, and budget options we genuinely recommend. These picks are based on location, comfort, value, and how well they work for an actual Costa Rica trip.

In other words, these are the 11 stays we’d choose ourselves.

Let’s get to it!

Layout of Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio is a beach town on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast, and you’ll often hear “Manuel Antonio” and “Quepos” used interchangeably. They’re related, but not the same.

Quepos is the larger service town just off the highway. This is where you’ll find grocery stores, gas stations, ATMs, and the main marina. You’ll pass through Quepos on the way to Manuel Antonio.

From Quepos, one main road climbs into Manuel Antonio along a hilly, jungle-lined stretch filled with hotels, vacation rentals, and restaurants with ocean views. Follow this road downhill and you’ll reach the main beach, and at the very end of it sits Manuel Antonio National Park.

There’s only one road in and out, so once you hit the park entrance, you turn around to head back.

We generally recommend staying in Manuel Antonio rather than Quepos for better beach access, views, and overall vibes. Just keep in mind that listings sometimes use the names interchangeably, so it’s always worth checking the map to see exactly where a hotel is located.

Most of the places on this list are what we’d consider true Manuel Antonio.

High-End Hotels

1. Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort

⭐️ RATING: 9.0/10 on Booking.com | 9.8 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Barefoot beachfront luxury with rainforest wildlife

Arenas Del Mar is one of the few luxury hotels in Manuel Antonio that’s actually on the beach. You get direct access to Playitas Beach, rainforest all around, and (hopefully) regular wildlife sightings.

The resort feels relaxed rather than stuffy and is an easy choice if you want comfort, nature, and convenience all in one place.

Rooms & Design: Boutique-size (37 rooms) with ocean or rainforest views, strong A/C, comfortable beds, and modern bathrooms. Everything is designed to feel calm, easy, and comfortable rather than flashy.

Dining & Amenities: A beachfront restaurant with lounge-chair service, plus staff who make tours and transportation feel effortless.

Good to Know: The property is built into a hillside, so there are stairs. They have golf carts which help, but it’s worth knowing.

Why We Love It: We think it’s one of the simplest ways to do Manuel Antonio right: beach, wildlife, and low-stress logistics in one stay. It’s luxury without being stuffy, which we also really like.

2. Tulemar Resort

⭐️ RATING: 9.7/10 on Booking.com | 9.6 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Private jungle villas, secluded beach, effortless luxury

Tulemar Resort is a gated, 33-acre rainforest resort made up of villas, bungalows, and private houses rather than one main hotel building. It’s a favorite for travelers who want the space and privacy of a vacation rental, but with full resort services and a concierge that handles everything for you.

Why It Stands Out
Tulemar combines a true jungle setting with its own guest-only beach, which is rare in Manuel Antonio. Once you’re inside the gates, it feels completely removed from the busy road, even though restaurants and shops are nearby.

Rooms & Layout
Instead of standard rooms, you choose from bungalows, villas, casas, or private houses. Most units include kitchens or kitchenettes, living space, A/C, Wi-Fi, and outdoor terraces. Every stay comes with personal concierge service, which is a big part of why people love Tulemar.

Amenities & Experience
Guests have access to a secluded sandy beach with attendants, loungers, kayaks, and beach food service, plus multiple pools, a resort shuttle (essential on the hills), daily housekeeping, and optional in-villa spa services or private chefs.

Good to Know
The property is steep, so most guests rely on the shuttle. Accommodations vary a lot, so it’s important to double-check unit type and views when booking.

Why We Love It
We love Tulemar because we really like choosing vacation rentals over hotels. Tulemar really offers the best of both worlds. It’s perfect for families, groups of friends etc.

In fact, we actually strongly considered renting one of the large villas and having our wedding here several years ago.

3. Gaia Hotel & Reserve – Adults Only

⭐️ RATING: 9/10 on Booking.com | 9.6 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Boutique jungle luxury, personal service, wow-factor views

Gaia Hotel & Nature Reserve is one of those places where everything feels handled for you. It’s a small, eco-focused boutique hotel with strong concierge service, a private nature reserve on-site, and infinity pools with those classic Manuel Antonio jungle-and-ocean views.

Why It Stands Out
The on-site private nature reserve is a big differentiator. Guests can join guided walks and learn about Gaia’s scarlet macaw reintroduction program. It’s a pretty cool feature!

Rooms & Layout
This is a true boutique stay with just 22 rooms. Some units come with jacuzzis, plunge pools, or upgraded ocean views depending on what you book. Overall, it feels intimate, calm, and personal rather than resort-busy.

Dining & Amenities
La Luna, the on-site restaurant, is a highlight, with consistently strong reviews for both food and service. There’s also a rooftop SkyLounge for sunset drinks, plus a multi-level infinity pool, full-service spa, fitness center, and concierge desk.

Good to Know
Gaia is adults-only, but the restaurant is open to the public, so you may occasionally see kids at dinner. This is a jungle-first stay (not beachfront) so it’s best for travelers who prioritize views, wildlife, and pools over being steps from the sand.

Why We Love It
Gaia is one of our go-to recommendations when someone wants boutique luxury without stress. We also like that it’s adult-only. If you’re looking for a romatic getaway for honeymoon spot, this is a good option.

4. Makanda by The Sea Hotel Adults Only

⭐️ RATING: 8.9/10 on Booking.com | 9.4 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Adults-only jungle glamour, bold design, infinity-pool energy

Makanda by The Sea is one of the most visually striking hotels in Manuel Antonio. It’s adults-only (18+), deeply tucked into the jungle, and designed to feel like a luxury treehouse with a dramatic, almost cinematic vibe.

This is the kind of place where the hotel itself is part of the experience.

Rooms & Layout
Boutique-sized (33 rooms), with suites, pool villas, and penthouses designed for privacy. Many rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, jungle and ocean views, modern bathrooms, and strong A/C. This is a stay where spending time in your room actually feels like part of the vacation.

Dining & Amenities
Arbol, the on-site restaurant, is a big part of the experience, with ocean views, elevated dining, and a strong cocktail scene. There are also full-service spa options, a small gym, and access to Makanda Wild Beach (a natural, secluded cove reached by a steep path or golf cart).

Good to Know
The property is steep, and golf carts are a normal part of getting around. Food and drinks are premium-priced, so many guests mix in meals in town to balance costs.

Why We Love It
If you want an adults-only stay in Manuel Antonio where design, views, and atmosphere matter as much as comfort, Makanda is one of the most memorable splurges you can book. Truthfully, I’m obsessed with the design of this place. It feels so different than what you will typically get in Costa Rica for resort vibes, and I love it.

Mid-Range Hotels in Manuel Antonio

5. La Vela Boutique Hotel

⭐️ RATING: 8.7/10 on Booking.com | 9.4 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Laid-back jungle boutique, walk-everywhere location

La Vela Boutique Hotel is a small, 21-room boutique hotel surrounded by tropical gardens, with a relaxed pool area, lots of wildlife, and genuinely friendly staff. This is more charming and comfortable than ultra-luxury, but the location is definitely hard to beat.

Why It Stands Out
The walkability. You’re steps from Manuel Antonio National Park, the main public beach, restaurants, and shops. It’s an easy, low-stress base, especially for first-time visitors.

Rooms & Layout
Rooms are clean, air-conditioned, and comfortable, with Wi-Fi, coffee makers, safes, and modern bathrooms. Decor is simple and beachy rather than highly styled. There’s a wide range of options, from compact standard rooms to larger suites and family-friendly layouts with semi-kitchens, which makes it work well for couples, families, and longer stays.

Amenities
Free breakfast (a guest favorite), a jungle-view pool with loungers, seasonal tiki bar, and a brick-oven pizza spot that people rave about. Wildlife sightings around the property are common.

Good to Know
Some rooms are fairly simple and smaller than expected for the price, especially in lower categories. Keep in mind that this isn’t a polished luxury resort, it’s a comfortable boutique hotel in a prime location.

Why We Love It
La Vela hits a sweet spot in Manuel Antonio: jungle atmosphere, wildlife, a great pool, and one of the best locations in town. If you want to park once (or skip a car entirely), walk everywhere, and still feel surrounded by nature, this place just works. In our opinion it’s just one of the places we always feel confident recommending to people.

6. Hotel Villas Nicolas – Adult Only

⭐️ RATING: 8.7/10 on Booking.com | 9.6 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Peaceful adults-only hillside retreat with jungle views

Villas Nicolas is a quiet, independently owned boutique stay tucked into the hillside above Playa Espadilla. It’s adults-only, low-key, and feels more like a tropical condo retreat than a traditional hotel.

Rooms & Layout
There are just 12 villas, all slightly different. Rooms range from simple jungle-view doubles to ocean-view suites with large terraces and hammocks. Many units include kitchenettes or full kitchens, making this a great option for longer stays or travelers who like a bit of independence.

Good to Know
This is a hillside property, so expect some slopes and stairs. Breakfast is straightforward, not fancy, and ocean views are worth booking specifically if they matter to you.

Why We Love It
Villas Nicolas is ideal if you want space, nature, and a peaceful adults-only atmosphere without resort crowds. It’s one of our favorite recommendations for couples and solo travelers who actually want to relax in Manuel Antonio.

7. Tico Tico Villas – Adult Only

tico tico villas

⭐️ RATING: 9.1/10 on Booking.com | 9.4 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Quiet adults-only jungle studios, independent and low-key

Tico Tico Villas is an adults-only hideaway designed for independent travelers who want calm, privacy, and flexibility rather than a traditional hotel experience. Think private garden studios, hammocks, strong Wi-Fi, and a peaceful, inclusive atmosphere where mornings are slow and evenings are quiet.

Rooms & Layout
The property offers a mix of studios and villas, all with A/C, ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, work desks, and kitchen setups (from kitchenettes to full kitchens). Many units open onto patios or garden spaces.

Amenities
On-site pool, high-speed internet, free parking, laundry services, gas grill, and easy access to public transportation. There’s no on-site restaurant, but multiple cafés, restaurants, and markets are within walking distance.

Good to Know
This is a quiet property with enforced quiet hours and no children or pets allowed. Housekeeping is limited by default (with optional paid daily service), which helps keep things eco-friendly and affordable. If you want daily hotel-style service or on-site dining, this won’t be the right fit.

Why We Love It
We like this place for the digital nomad, longer stay crowd. It is a straightforward, dependable place with great staff. We also always love a place that has kitchen facilities for the possibility of preparing meals.

8. Hotel Playa Espadilla & Gardens

⭐️ RATING: 8.9/10 on Booking.com | 9.6 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Comfortable, family-run jungle hotel with an unbeatable location

Hotel Playa Espadilla & Espadilla Gardens is one of our go-to recommendations when someone says, “I just want to be close to everything.” This long-running, Costa Rican family-owned hotel sits in lush gardens close to the Manuel Antonio National Park entrance and just minutes from Playa Espadilla.

Why It Stands Out
The location. You can walk to the national park, the beach, restaurants, and the bus stop without dealing with hills, shuttles, or driving.

Rooms & Layout
There are two connected areas: Hotel Playa Espadilla (with Premium Rooms and Junior Suites) and the sister property Espadilla Gardens (with more budget-friendly Standard Superior rooms). Premium rooms are more spacious and modern, while standard rooms are simpler and a bit cozier.

Amenities & Dining
Guests love the peaceful pool area, tropical gardens, and friendly staff. The on-site Puerto Escondido Restaurant is genuinely good, with Costa Rican and international dishes, plus a daily happy hour.

Good to Know
This is a comfort-first hotel, not a luxury resort. Some standard rooms are on the smaller side, and the pool area is low-key. If you want polished design and resort vibes, look elsewhere. If you want convenience and reliability, this delivers.

Why We Love It
I think Hotel Playa Espadilla and Espadilla Gardens hit a sweet spot in Manuel Antonio: walk-to-everything convenience, a calm jungle setting, and a long-established team that knows how to take care of guests.

9. Buena Vista Plus

⭐️ RATING: 8.7/10 on Booking.com | 9.4 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Relaxed beachfront comfort, walk-everywhere convenience

Buena Vista Plus is all about location. It sits directly on Espadilla Beach and within easy walking distance of Manuel Antonio National Park, restaurants, and shops.

The feel is low-key and personal, with friendly staff and breezy rooms surrounded by greenery.

Why It Stands Out
True beachfront access without resort crowds. Beach chairs and umbrellas are reserved for guests, and you can walk almost everywhere.

Rooms & Layout
Rooms are simple, airy, and comfortable, with A/C, Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, coffee makers, and balconies. Many rooms face the ocean or lush gardens, which adds to the relaxed, tropical feel.

Good to Know
This is a small, natural-feeling property, not a modern luxury hotel. A few guests mention typical beachfront quirks like humidity, shower temperature inconsistencies, or older fixtures. For most people, the location more than makes up for it.

Why We Love It
Beachfront hotels in Manuel Antonio are rare, and Buena Vista Plus delivers that experience without the price or atmosphere of a large resort. We’ve stayed here a few times and really love it for the location. It’s a solid option.

10. The Falls at Manuel Antonio

⭐️ RATING: 8.9/10 on Booking.com | 9.4 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Jungle oasis, boutique comfort, great food on-site

The Falls at Manuel Antonio feels like a little green hideaway right in the middle of Manuel Antonio. It’s set just off the main road on the hill, close to restaurants and shops, with easy access to the beach and Manuel Antonio National Park by bus, taxi, or a longer walk if you don’t mind hills.

Rooms & Layout
Rooms are spread through the gardens and feel private and green. Decor mixes modern and natural touches, with A/C, Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and coffee makers. Options range from remodeled jungle bungalows and spacious deluxe rooms to a full 3-bedroom apartment suite for families or groups.

Dining & Amenities
Medusa Restaurant & Bar serves international-fusion dishes, fresh seafood, and creative cocktails, with a popular happy hour by the pool. Guests also love the included breakfast, the infinity-style pool surrounded by jungle, and the friendly, helpful staff.

Good to Know
Some rooms closer to the road are less “retreat-like” than the garden-facing options, and a few guests mention small practical quirks (like loud mini-fridges). Overall, this is boutique comfort, not luxury polish.

Why We Love It
The Falls is a great choice if you want a jungle vibe, an excellent restaurant on-site, and a central Manuel Antonio location without staying right at the busy park entrance. I like going here when I want some of the amenities and feel of a luxury resort without the price tag.

Budget-Friendly Hotels and Hostels

11. Planet B Hostel

⭐️ RATING: 8.6/10 on Booking.com | 8.6 on Expedia ⭐️

Vibe: Social, creative jungle hostel with a strong community feel

Planet B Hostel is a colorful, inclusive, volunteer-run, and very much a make-yourself-at-home kind of spot.

People cook together, share travel tips, stretch out in hammocks, and often end up staying longer than planned. It’s social without being a party hostel.

Why It Stands Out
The vibe. Planet B attracts travelers who want community, creativity, and value. Add daily wildlife sightings and genuinely kind volunteers, and it’s easy to see why reviews are so loyal.

Rooms & Layout
Rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable. You can choose between mixed dorms (including a quieter 4-bed with a private bathroom) or a private double room if you want your own space but still want the hostel atmosphere. A/C throughout.

Amenities
Free breakfast (a guest favorite), free laundry (huge win for backpackers), shared kitchen, rooftop yoga space, workout area, lockers, good Wi-Fi, and help with tours and shuttles.

Location
Set on a hill between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, with a bus stop steps away. It’s easy to reach Espadilla Beach and Manuel Antonio National Park without needing a car.

Good to Know
Because it’s volunteer-run, things can feel a little casual. Check-in may be slower, and logistics aren’t ultra-polished. That’s part of the charm for most people.

Why We Love It
We love a good hostel when it’s done right, and in our opinion Planet B does it right. I love a place that has acommunity feel (especially when solo traveling) but where I also don’t have to worry that people will be paartying all night long. Planet B has that down.
