Playa Blanca in  Costa Rica: A White Sand Beach an Hour from San Jose

Playa Blanca in  Costa Rica: A White Sand Beach an Hour from San Jose

Here's how you can plan a visit to this beautiful Pacific Ocean spot

Playa Blanca is located in a private resort. However, all beaches in Costa Rica need to have public access, so you can still visit this spot even if you aren't staying in the resort.

There is a parking lot for all day visitors that is guarded. It costs a few dollars to park here.  Just note that once the lot is full they will turn people away. So, arrive early.

There are two beaches here. Playa Mantas is easily accesible and great for kids.  Playa Blanca is only accessible during low tide and involves climbing over rocks. But, the beach is worth it.

From San Jose it will take a little over an hour to drive to Playa Blanca. From Jaco it will only take about 20 minutes to get here.

Usually the water is calm enough that you can easily swim here without worrying about big waves or rip currents

Make sure to look up in the trees, Maccaws like to hang out here. And watch out for raccoons. They like to steal food here.
