Villas Alturas
Villas Alturas
A hillside villa resort with huge ocean views, a great pool, and an on-site wildlife sanctuary that kids and adults both love.
Town: Dominical | Class: Mid-range villa resort
Villas Alturas is one of those places where the view kind of steals the show.
The villas sit high above the coast with sweeping ocean and jungle views, and you can often spot whales (in season), birds, and other wildlife right from your terrace.
It’s quiet, friendly, and easy to use as a “home base” while you explore Dominical, Uvita, and the rest of the Southern Zone.
Location
The resort is perched on the Escaleras hillside between Dominical and Uvita, about 35 minutes south of Manuel Antonio.
You’re up above the coast with long Pacific Coast views and a nice breeze, but still just a short drive to beaches, waterfalls, and small towns.
You really do want a car here. The property is set above the main road, and driving makes it much easier to get to Dominical, Uvita, Marino Ballena, and nearby attractions.
Villas Alturas is also right next to the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a huge bonus if you’re traveling with kids or just love animals.

Rooms & Layout
There are seven one- and two-bedroom villas, all with ocean views and a “home away from home” feel. Each villa has:
- A separate bedroom (or bedrooms) with king and/or queen beds
- A living area to spread out in
- A full kitchen with fridge and basic cooking equipment
- Private terrace or balcony with ocean and jungle views
- Air conditioning in the bedrooms
Villas are spacious, clean, and designed for longer stays. Daily housekeeping is included, and linens are changed every third day.
The total sleeping capacity across all villas is around 31 guests, so even when it’s full, it still feels small and relaxed rather than crowded.
On-Site Dining
The on-site restaurant, NFusion, sits by the pool with a panoramic view over the Pacific and Marino Ballena’s famous Whale’s Tail. It’s open to the public for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and guests consistently rave about the food.
Expect fresh, well-prepared meals, good portions, and a casual but scenic setting. There’s also a full bar with cocktails and cold drinks, plus poolside service so you can eat or sip something while watching the sunset.
Why Guests Love It
- Ocean and coastline views from the villas and pool
- Lots of wildlife around the property (toucans, monkeys, coatis, agoutis, and more)
- Super friendly staff and hands-on management who really help when needed
- Clean, comfortable villas with kitchens and private terraces
- NFusion restaurant and bar with very good food
- Easy access to Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary right next door
Heads Up (Real Talk)
Because the resort is up on a hillside, it feels a bit removed from town and the beach. That’s part of the charm, but it does mean you’ll be driving up and down rather than walking everywhere.
Some guests mentioned that kitchen cookware could be upgraded a bit if you plan to cook a lot.
Villas are very comfortable, but a few people noted that, over time, some units would benefit from light remodeling.
You may also experience things like brief power cuts during storms, which is pretty normal for Costa Rica. The team here is used to it and generally handles those situations quickly and calmly.
Our Take
We like Villas Alturas when you want your own space but also the security of a hotel. I usually prefer to be directly on the beach, but in this area the jungle is so amazing, that I kind of actually prefer being up higher and enjoying the coastal views. The restaurant here is also amazing.
