Hotel Cuna Del Angel

Hotel Cuna Del Angel

A boutique jungle hotel with a strong wellness focus, ocean views, and a fully gluten-free gourmet restaurant that people travel for on its own.
Town: Between Dominical & Uvita | Class: Boutique jungle hotel with spa

Hotel Cuna del Angel sits on a hillside between Dominical and Uvita, surrounded by rainforest with views toward the Pacific.

It has a slightly old-world, angel-themed style, a calm pool area, a small spa, and one very big standout: La Palapa, a 100% gluten-free restaurant that is a dream for celiacs and any foodie.

Location

Cuna del Angel is located along the coastal road, about 4.5 miles south of Dominical and 4 miles north of Uvita.

You are close enough to reach beaches, Marino Ballena, and nearby towns by car, but the hotel itself feels like a tucked-away jungle stop on the hillside.

You do not need a 4×4 to get here, but the property is built on a slope with a lot of stairs between some areas, so it helps to know that if mobility is a concern.

Parking is available on-site.

Rooms & Layout

There are two main room categories with very different feels.

The Angel Deluxe Rooms are in the main area near the infinity pool. These are decorated with classic, slightly vintage details and have:

  • One queen bed or a queen plus a full bed
  • A private bathroom with bathtub and shower
  • Air conditioning and ceiling fans
  • Cable TV and Wi-Fi
  • Mini bar, coffee maker, safe, hairdryer, and alarm clock
  • Terrace or balcony with a jungle view, some overlooking the pool

The Jungle Rooms are simpler wooden rooms set deeper in the forest, away from the main building. They include:

  • One full bed or two twin beds
  • A private bathroom with shower
  • Air conditioning and a ceiling fan
  • Mini bar, cable TV, safe, coffee maker, and balcony

These jungle units do not have ocean views and are reached by a ramp or about 40 steps.

They feel very private and “in the rainforest” but are also farther from the pool, restaurant, and other amenities.

They are best for younger or more adventurous guests who do not mind the extra walk.

On-Site Dining

La Palapa Restaurant is a big part of why people love this hotel. It is a gluten-free international restaurant with a focus on fresh, organic ingredients, many grown on the hotel’s own permaculture farm, Finca Heartsong.

Expect things like:

  • Pastas and risottos made gluten free
  • Dishes like porcini and truffle cream, clam and mussel spaghetti, goat cheese and spinach salad, beef tenderloin in truffle sauce, curry chicken, seafood plates, and creative vegetarian options
  • A dedicated gluten-free and vegetarian menu
  • House desserts like chocolate tortino, coconut flan, passion fruit pie, panna cotta, and more

Spa & Wellness

Angel’s Care Center is the on-site spa and wellness area set in the tropical forest. Treatments include:

  • Relaxing and deep tissue massages
  • Hot stone massages
  • Body scrubs and wraps
  • Facials focused on cleansing or hydration
  • Packages that combine scrubs, wraps, massage, and mini facials

The overall goal is to mix relaxation, nature, and a bit of medical-style skincare, using professional products and equipment.

Why Guests Love It

  • Beautiful jungle setting with nice ocean and forest views
  • Calm atmosphere and well-kept grounds
  • Very kind, attentive staff and stand-out servers
  • Comfortable, nicely decorated rooms with a classic feel
  • Infinity pool where you can watch monkeys and birds
  • Truly 100% gluten-free restaurant that is safe for celiacs
  • Easy base for exploring Dominical, Uvita, and Marino Ballena by car

Heads Up (Real Talk)

The property has a lot of stairs and level changes. Guests who prefer flat layouts or have mobility issues may find that challenging, especially between rooms and common areas.

The pool is on the smaller side, so it feels more like a relaxation pool than a big resort pool.

Because the hotel is near the main road, there can be some road noise in certain rooms, and you really do need a car or taxis to get to beaches and national parks.

Our Take

We like Cuna del Angel for travelers who want a boutique jungle stay with a strong focus on food quality and wellness rather than a huge list of resort activities.

It is especially good if you or someone in your group needs gluten-free food and wants to relax without worrying about cross-contamination. I really like the restaurant.
